If you're interested in web analytics (you should be if you have a website) then one of the resources that you'll probably frequent is Web Analytics Demystified's Blog Section. Eric Peterson just announced that he, his partners at Web Analytics Demystified, and others have started an exciting new project that might solve one of the biggest problems relating to the web analytics world.

So, I've been experimenting with Google's custom search gadget to create a hyper-local search engine for Dublin, Georgia sites. If I simply go to a search engine and type in something like "dublin, georgia websites" I'll get several hundred thousand useless results. Most of the sites that pop up are travel-related companies offering discounts on bed and breakfast stays and the like.

One of the most important things that a web master can do when implementing analytics is to filter out his own visits.  If your're using Google Analytics then this can be accomplished by setting up a custom filter.  A filter will remove visit records depending on the criteria that you set up.

In this article I will show you how to set up filters in Google Analytics that will filter out visits from a particular IP address, and IP address block, and a domain.
